Bridal Shower Album

Part of the reason that I have not had much time for making cards is because I have been working on a bridal shower album for a shower that my Mom hosted. Each of the guests wrote down advice or wishes for the bride and had their picture taken with her. From there, I created the album with each two-page layout dedicated to one of the guests. The feature colour is orange as that is her wedding colour and then I used black to really make the orange pop (using white made everything too bright and you didn't really notice the pictures).

There were 17 guests in all so this was quite a lot of work. I had to make sure they all tied together but weren't too similar. My solution was to use 4 different embellishments (flowers that I made, Prima flowers, 1/2" circles with pearls and buttons) and try to evenly space them throughout the book. I also tried to balance out vertical and horizontal dp so as to try to alternate them throughout the book. Finally, I also tried to even out the type of ribbon used (black satin, black grosgrain, white organdy and orange grosgrain). Took a lot of thought and well over 24 hours total to make but I think it turned out quite well.

These are some of the layouts that used the flowers I made from the SU retired set Embrace Life (faces and names are blurred for privacy. These pages are some of my favourites of all because I love that flower and did you notice the pearls in it - those are SU pearls that come in all diffferent sizes. One of my new favourite things in the new catalogue!

The only thing I am not too fond of about this album is it used up all of this pattern of dp from the island oasis pack!

Ink: Jet Black StazOn, pumpkin pie
Paper: SU ww, basic black, pumpkin pie, island oasis dp

Birthday Girl

I took some time out to finally make a new card! Our friends' daughter is turning 3 this week so we wanted to send her a bright fun card and this is what I came up with! The solid icecream image was stamped, the stamped again with the wavy image, covered in Crystal effects and then dazzling diamonds were dropped in before it dried for a neat effect. For some reason, rose red ink turned neon pink with the crystal effects on it so I ended up using cherry cobbler and it turned out to look like an exact match to the island oasis dp. Again, I used leftover embroidery thread to attach the tag (which is from Making Memories a long time ago but it looked so cute and matched perfectly with the icecream cone).

Stamps: SU sweet scoops
Ink: SU tempting turquoise, pumpkin pie, cherry cobbler, old olive, so saffron
Paper: SU ww, tempting turquoise, pumpkin pie, island oasis dp
Ribbon: SU 1/4" tempting turquoise grosgrain
Misc: SU crystal effects, SU dazzling diamonds, embroidery thread, Making Memories tag

And another...

Apparently I miscounted when I thought I was done with baby cards and I actually had one more to do! Here it is! I based it of this week's mojo monday sketch 148 and designed it to match along with this box that I made some time ago and will use to package up the gift in - I'm glad I finally found a good use for it! I love all the white space on this card.

Stamps: SU pun fun, congrats (retired)
Ink: Stazon jet black, basic gray, pretty in pink, so saffron
Paper: SU ww, pretty in pink, spring fling (retired)
Ribbon: SU 1/4" pretty in pink grosgrain
Misc: aquapainter, dimensionals, CB swiss dots embossing folder

Note: The only non SU item is the CB swiss dots embossing folder however, Stampin' Up! carries the perfect polka-dots embossing folder which is very similar and easily substituted.

Dandelion Flurry

It's been a while again since I last posted and will probably be a while again following this post. Since Grant is a teacher, he has the summer off and we've been spending lots of time doing things and visiting people we didn't have time to during the school year.

One of the small things we have done is create the following canvas for our future bedroom in the house we're building. We've had this dark gray dandelion flurry decor element from Stampin' Up! for a long time but never put it together because we were waiting to decide what colour our new sheets would be so we could match the canvas to them. Our duvet is a nickel colour - which matches nicely with the dark gray and the sheets are a dark red (although the canvas looks a bit brighter in the photo). We love the way it turned out. This is actually a very large canvas too 30" x 40". For the time being we have it hanging in our living room.

As for our house, it's coming along very nicely and quickly. They are really ahead of schedule at this point so we are getting excited! Here's a pic for those who are interested!

CASEing my own CASE

I loved this newlywed card I posted earlier so much that I decided to recreate it using tangering tango which is similar to my cousins wedding colour!I love the way it turned out. The only other difference I made between this version and the prevous (other than the colour) are: 1) the white cardstock was cut a bit smaller to create a larger black border behind it and 2) I lined up the black brads a little better in the corner.

Stamps: SU Because I Care (hostess), Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: SU tangerine tango, old olive, StazOn jet black
Paper: SU ww, crumb cake, basic black, watercolour paper
Ribbon: SU 1/4" basic black grosgrain
Misc: SU sponge dauber, aquapainter, blender pens, brads
