MDS Contest: Scrapbook Entry

Now that the finalists have been announced for the MDS contest, I thought I would share my entries. Seeing as it was just Halloween, I will start off with my Halloween scrapbook entry.
One of the requirements was to enter a scrapbook page along with journalling. This was the page I submitted and the hardest part for me was definitely the journalling as I typically do not journal in my scrapbooks - I think it turned out okay though.

Maggie actually wore this costume for Halloween and many of the kids who came to the door were more interested in her than in getting candy!

Digital Supplies:

Papers: pumpkine pie cardstock, night and day dsp
Stamps: man's best friend
Embellishments: pumpkin pie brads and grosgrain ribbon, pick your poison borders
Punch: square punch

More Halloween Decor

I posted my candles that I made for Halloween a couple days ago and here is some more Halloween decor I made for around the house.
These pumpkins were made using the Definitely Decorative vinyl "Spooky Expressions." I actually purchased these around when they first came out but I didn't have anywhere to put them since we were in the apartment. Now that we have a house, we have tons of places to put them! I have one in our kitchen, one in the dining room and one in the living room.

This is a totally non-SU project, but I wanted to share the wreath I made for our front door for Halloween. It was super cheap to create and fairly easy too (except for the second degree burn I got on my finger from the hot glue gun)!
I purchased a wire wreath frame from Michael's and wrapped it with 8 feather boas I got at the dollar store. Then I pulled the leaves off the stems of the skulls (you may have noticed that they are placed underneath the candles I posted a couple days ago) that I got at Michaels and wrapped them around the frame. Finally, I tied on some orange Christmas balls to the frame as well. There are actually quite a few more than you can see in the photo, but the wind made the feathers cover them up when I was photographing it.

Hope you enjoy some of my Halloween projects!

Halloween Candles

I had been playing with MDS a lot earlier in the month to be able to enter the MDS contest to win downloads and came up with this idea as well.
I created the bands in MDS, printed them, mounted them on black cardstock and wrapped them around the candles. I left them loose enough so that I could slide them off and save them for next year! There are a couple of additional candles that aren't in the photo because they sit up on top of the fireplace mantle.

Last of the Halloween Treats!

I know I'm so behind on posting but here are the last of the Halloween treats I made this year. I saw these cute little kit kat holders and had to give the mummy one a try. The tutorials are so clear and so easy to follow. I love the way they turned out and they are so quick to make! I did change a few things: I eliminated some of the layering on the eyes and instead just coloured circles with my white uniglo pen on black 1/2" circles. I also added layers of vanilla above and below so the eyes were a little more hidden! Inside, I used the word label punch instead of the modern label punch - I just punched it twice close together to make the opening big enough to fit the kit kat. You can see in the top picture, I put them at an angle so you could see kit kat inside. If you pop over there to the tutorial check out all of the awesome tutorials Angie has down the side of her blog - they are fantastic!

I saw that cute little pumpkin poop story on Kerry's paper crafting blog and just had to give it a try. I don't know who originally had it but that is the one I saw. It was again super quick and easy to make and could work with so many different Halloween candies! Again, I used Marni's RGB values to create the title of the saying in pumpkin pie so it would coordinate properly.

Late Halloween Goodies

I know they are late but here's a few Halloween treats that I made. Grant's school this year went for a healthy Halloween theme so instead of giving the kids candy, we gave them Halloween pencils and play-doh. I had extra pixie stix from other projects left in the house so I added a few in for these images but we didn't give them to the kids!
The top left image, is a piece of 12" x 2 1/4" folded up and closed at the sides with red sticky tape so they would be strong enough to not open once the pencils were inserted.

The top right image was made using a 12" x 3" paper. I used my word window punch to create an opening to hold the pixie stix then used sticky tape to adhere the open 3 sides together.

Finally, I wrapped designer paper around the play doh and then adhered the stamped images to the top of the container.

Supplies

Stamps: SU Batty for You
Ink: SU basic black, Versamark
Paper: SU ghostly greetings
Ribbon: SU 1/4" pumpkin pie grosgrain
Misc: SU white embossing powder

Scary Skeleton

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadian readers! I'm not much of a Thanksgiving craft type person so I thought I would share a Halloween treat instead.I've had this card in my head for a while and finally got down to actually making it. This card uses the new SU set Scary Skeleton. I love this skeleton image because of the way it is positioned - it almost looks like he's dancing. And it makes it great to add a little sentiment underneath the lifted foot. I chose not to do that for this card because I thought it made it look a little too busy. Also, I'm not quite decided if I want to colour inside the skeleton with a white uniball pen so he's actually white instead of black...? I know I should use current Halloween papers but I much prefer these older retired ones. Sorry.

Stamps: SU Scary Skeleton
Ink: Versamark
Paper: SU ghostly greetings (retired), SU pumpkin pie, basic black, kiwi kiss (retired)
Punch: SU word window punch
Ribbon: SU 1/4" pumpkin pie grosgrain
Misc: SU white embossing powder

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween! I love Halloween! Interesting to hear on the news last night that some places in the country are now calling it "orange and black day" to be politically correct. I know how I feel about that, how do you feel?

Anyway, on to a couple more Halloween Cards that I created for this sketch as part of RDOA. This card I am not too sure about, but I do love that spooky spider image. I'm waiting for another one to come in the mail from the Decor Elements line. This has to be one of my absolulte favourite Halloween projects I've made yet. It's quite simple but it's just so festive and fun! Can you tell I just love these SU rubons? They are so cute and easy to use!

RDOA Halloween Cards

I had to get a couple more Halloween cards in before it's too late! They are just so fun to make. These were based off this sketch for RDOA.

This card was made using the SU rubons "Chills & Thrills" and I tried to make it look like the bat was carrying the "boo" saying - I think it worked! Plus, rather than doing a ribbon, I used the rubons to create a line across the bottom. This card again uses the rubons and I just think this one is too cute. Supplies:

Batty Card
Rubons: SU Chills & Thrills
Paper: SU kiwi kiss, ww, basic black, ghostly greetings dp

Pumpkin Card

Halloween Candy Boxes

Here are a couple of Halloween candy boxes that hold mini Hershey peanut butter cups (which are one of my favourite candies) or Hershey nuggets. Here are the boxes closed: This shows all of the candies in the box when pulled right out of it's case. The boxes even fit the candy when you decorate the tops so the inside can be themed too! Sandy Grupka created these templates and shared them as a guest stamper on Mary's blog Stampin' Pretty - you can find them on this post. I had to use those same two papers she did because they are my favourite of all the Halloween papers.

These are super easy and fun to make so I'll definitely be making some of these in a Christmas theme!

Supplies

Stamps: SU Batty for You
Ink: SU basic black
Rubons: SU Chills & Thrills
Paper: SU Ghostly Greetings dp, kiwi kiss, pumpkin pie, basic gray, basic black, ww
Punches: SU 1 1/4" circle, 1 3/8" circle punches

Halloween Gift Bag

This was a super easy gift bag to make because I used my Cricut "Bags, Tags, Boxes and More" cartridge on the giftbag setting at 4 1/2". Then it was just a matter of taping the bag together and adding the main image to the front. I've currently just filled it with Hershey kisses but I was thinking I will probably just put all of the pixie stix from this post in it to give to my sister for her to give to her grade 2/3 class she teaches (I ended up making enough for the whole class since they were so cute).

Supplies

Stamps: SU Batty for You
Ink: SU tangerine tango
Paper: SU basic black, kiwi kiss, tangerine tango, ww
Misc: Cricut machine and "tags, bags, boxes and more" cartridge

Here are a couple of Halloween candy bags I made! I just can't seem to get enough of these Batty for You stamps and Ghostly greetings dp. I'll have to find a use for all of these Halloween things I've been creating - maybe some friends or co-workers will be getting some candies!

Batty SFYTT

Sorry for the delay in posts. It's been a busy week - I had to work 6 evenings in a row then go back to Calgary for appointments.

This is the card I made for Jen's SFYTT. I really like this sketch - it's so simple but I love all of the straight lines! Cards like this make me wish I had the SU markers so that I could have just coloured the bat from the stamp and left out the writing! One of these days I'll break down and buy them!

WSC59 Spider

This is my card for Beate's WSC59. This was a fun sketch to play with and it took me a long time to decide which of the adorable Halloween papers to use! This card is very simple and quick to make - I'm trying to do more "quick" cards that don't have a lot of layering like I usually do!

Stamps: SU Batty for You

Paper: SU basic black, kiwi kiss, ghostly grettings dp

Batty for You Pixie Stix

I love all of the stamps and papers for Halloween although I don't actually have much use for them as we don't have kids and we live in an apartment so kids don't trick-or-treat here. I decided to go ahead and use my favourite Halloween set SU's "Batty for You" to decorate some pixie stix since they are so cheap. These use the new In Colours tangerine tango and kiwi kiss. For the white images on black paper, I used white embossing powder so it would be really noticeable. The scallops were attached to the pixie sticks by taking a glue dot and wrapping it around the stick. I love the way these turned out. I'm at home with an injury from work so Grant ran to the store to get the pixie stix for me and he even got them orange specifically since he knew I wanted them for a Halloween project! Thanks G! Maybe I'll give them to my sister to use for school or something.
